Miles S. Nadal

Miles Nadal has generously shared his business acumen, his vision and his leadership skills with many organizations in our community but particularly with the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto and Mount Sinai Hospital.

When the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto launched the Jewish Toronto Tomorrow Dream Downtown campaign with a goal of $20 million to refurbish and revitalize the Jewish Community Centre, Miles Nadal recognized this opportunity to ensure the continued vitality of the downtown core, not only for the Jewish Community but for the entire city.

He was completely dedicated to the success of the campaign. Under his leadership, over $14 million was raised and $2.3 million of that goal came from his personal gift. He chaired the campaign, hosted events at his home and office, recruited key members to the team, and was instrumental in securing at least three other gifts of more than one million dollars. The now re-named Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre plays a vital role in our community and is a testimony to the dedication and visionary leadership of Miles Nadal. Additionally, he chaired the UJA Federation Business Cabinet in 1994 and recruited volunteers who raised $4 million from that group alone for the Annual Campaign, an increase of 11% from the previous year. He was chair of the Cabinet the following year as well and chaired the UJA’s Annual Campaign Major Gifts Committee in 2002.

At Mount Sinai Hospital, Miles Nadal demonstrated that same visionary leadership when he founded and was the inaugural Chair of Leadership Sinai, an innovative program designed to attract young donors and volunteers to the hospital. The membership fee for Leadership Sinai was set at $5,000 over five years; a significant gift for many first-time donors who went on to become major benefactors and leaders at Mount Sinai. After ten years, Leadership Sinai has contributed close to $3 million to the hospital and has recently pledged a further $1 million. In addition to establishing and fostering Leadership Sinai, Miles Nadal has contributed a total of $1 million to Mount Sinai along with many hours on the Board of Governors, Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

York University’s Schulich School of Business has also been the recipient of Miles Nadal’s philanthropy and has re-named its downtown executive training facility in the old Toronto Stock Exchange Building on Bay Street, the Miles S. Nadal Management Centre.

By sharing his vision and his gifts with so many, Miles Nadal is truly an outstanding volunteer in advancing philanthropy in our community.
