Philanthropy Journal Features Special Series on Canadian Philanthropy
July 25, 2006
(July 24, 2006) More than $1 billion is expected to be transferred from one generation to the next over the next two decades in Canada, according to an article in the Philanthropy Journal.
The journal, a publication of the Raleigh, N.C.-based A.J. Fletcher Foundation, reports on nonprofits in North Carolina, the United States and around the world. It has just completed a six-part series on Canadian philanthropy.
Just as in the U.S., a significant inter-generational transfer of wealth is expected to have a tremendous impact on philanthropy in Canada as some of that money is given to charities.
According to the article, because of this wealth transfer, many charities are beginning to focus on major and planned giving, and numerous financial service firms are developing philanthropy services to attract potential donors.
Additional articles in the series covers the growth of Canada’s charitable sector, the increasing professionalization of fundraising as charities focus on donor outreach, the trend of financial services firms targeting philanthropy and the increasing role of foundations in the country.
The first article can be found on the Philanthropy Journal website. Other articles can be accessed by scrolling to the bottom of that screen.
